Review and versions
What the team looks at, what you can undo, and how versions are numbered.
What gets reviewed
Two things go through Rolea Staff before they are public:
| What | What it covers |
|---|---|
| A version | The stylesheet, the settings it asks for, and the options it declares. |
| A change to the entry | The name, the description and the screenshots. |
While an entry change is waiting, the gallery keeps showing what was approved. If you send another, the previous one is dropped. If the theme has never been published, entry changes apply straight away.
A version’s states
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| In review | It is in the queue. You can take it back while it is here. |
| Approved | Live in the gallery and installable. It cannot be modified. |
| Rejected | Final, with the reviewer’s notes. You fix it with a new version, not by editing this one. |
The theme itself has its own status, which follows its versions: draft until the first one is approved, and published from then on. A rejection does not unpublish a theme that already has an approved version: the gallery carries on offering the newest approved one.
Taking a submission back
While a version is waiting for a decision, you can pull it out of the queue and cancel the submission. Go to Your themes, open the theme’s menu, choose “Publish an update”, and you will see the waiting version with the button to withdraw it.
When you do:
- The submission is deleted and leaves Rolea Staff’s queue.
- The version number is free again, so you can resubmit that same version once corrected.
- The theme goes back to where it was: published if something of it was already approved, a draft if this was its first attempt.
If it is approved
The theme appears in the gallery and can be installed. From then on the version is fixed: you cannot replace its stylesheet. Any correction, however small, goes out as a new version.
Publishing a new version does not change sites that already have the theme. Each one stays on the version it installed until its owner chooses to update.
If it is rejected
You get a notification with the reviewer’s notes. They are in two places: in Your themes, by hovering that version’s “Rejected” label, and on the theme’s update page.
A rejected version is final. It is not reopened and not edited: you correct it by submitting a new version, and the number it had stays taken.
Publishing a new version
From Your themes, in the theme’s menu, “Publish an update”. The form starts from your last version: whatever you do not change carries over, so all you have to do is upload the new stylesheet and say what changed.
You do not type the version number; it comes from that answer:
| What changed | The number it gets |
|---|---|
| Fixes and touch-ups. Corrections, spacing, colour tweaks | 1.2.0 → 1.2.1 |
| Improvements and additions. New or reworked pieces, but the theme is still recognisable | 1.2.0 → 1.3.0 |
| A full redesign. A different theme under the same name, or one that drops options a site may already be tuning | 1.2.0 → 2.0.0 |
Anyone with the theme installed sees that number before updating. The new version goes into the queue like any other.
Changing the entry, or the name
The name, the description and the screenshots are changed from the theme’s own page, without publishing a version. If the theme is already public, the change goes into the review queue and the outcome shows up on that same page.
Renaming is safe: old links to the theme keep working forever, and sites that already had it installed are unaffected.
Your themes, and the archive
Your themes shows what you have in play: drafts, submissions waiting on Rolea Staff, published themes, and anything rejected in the last two weeks.
Older ones move to Archived, behind a button above the list. They stay yours, and their names stay reserved: you can publish a new version of an archived theme whenever you like, and it returns to the main list.
